Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life--no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who's pretty sure things can't get worse.
She believes Roth to be suffering in the depths of the fiery pits of hell. Roth became important to her. And she misses him desperately. Roth is back!!!
I will say that my love for Roth took a blow at this point. He started spending more and more time with her, touching her, cuddling with her. Layla knew this was dangerous. The part of her that is half demon feeds off of souls and because of this, she can never kiss Zayne.
But Zayne has other thoughts on this subject. Could all the bad events that have taken place have anything to do with her?
Could she have caused them? Is she dangerous without even knowing it? When Layla is with Zayne, she feels warm, safe, special, comfortable. She spent her life following him around like a puppy dog. Is it possible that all her childhood dreams could possibly come true? Roth, now, is a different story.
He challenges her and evokes all sorts of tummy swirls. All he could do is hurt her in the end, right? He was the Crown Prince of Hell. She eats her meals alone or in the kitchen. Never in the dining room with the rest of the family.
At school, no one knows what she really is. She is constantly at war with herself, taught that her demon side is evil. Where does she belong?
And her sort of adoptive father, Abbot. I never liked that guy. Yes, he took her in, but he never really showed her any affection or made her feel like she was a part of the family. And in this book, my feelings of dislike turned to feelings of…well, lets just say they are now much stronger than dislike.
Yes, you will freak out. What a cruel punishment this is, leaving us like this to wait eight months for the grand finale. This is torture. So, did I enjoy this book? And am I still team Roth or have I gone over to the Zayne team? Team Roth, baby, all the way! View all 19 comments. Me ha encantado, como todos los de Jennifer. Ella nunca me decepciona.
Mar 10, The Y. For one thing, I just finished that book in one day.
In less than six hours. I have to admit, I wasn't sure how the second book was going to. My breath was blown away with what I encountered in the second, and somewhat better, installment of the Dark Elements.
So this book starts up from the major and upsetting cliffhanger at the end of White Hot Kiss. Layla is still upset about Roth but that makes sense since he only left two weeks prior. What Oh my goodness. What makes it worse if Zayne, her incredibly gorgeous best friend. Who is totally off limits because of who they both are. And because of the fact that Layla can take his soul if they kiss.
Along with that, the lack of trust that the other Wardens have for her have her fearing that they are keeping even more, and worse, secrets. To top it off, there are mystery accidents going on in the school. Overall Layla thinks that nothing could make this worse. But alas, it does.
Layla's powers begin changing and she gets the chance to see what she has been missing, which leads to a very steamy car scene. Those of you who've read the book, know what I mean.
On top of that Roth returns. At that point, Layla and I think that everything is going to be alright. But again alas, its not. Layla has her heart ripped out again as things continue to spiral downward and the death count continuing to rise.
So now it's time to describe what I like. That about sums it up but I'll continue to try anyway. The love It wasn't exactly a love triangle but I don't know how else to describe it. Do you hear me? I've loved you since the first moment I heard your voice and I will continue to love you. No matter what.
I love you. Why else did I always get up so early? Touch you? Because the last time I checked, I could do all those things. She was an amazing lead girl. I thought that she might be a little weak from the first one but she was very strong in this one.
All of my doubts about her just threw out the window. I was laughing at half of the things he was crying and crying at the other. I was heartbroken and crying with Layla because I was rootin' for him since the first book. I was growing to love him too but I was still a little reluctant to fully accept him. He is a great character and I want to read more with him. The action was very good. There was always twists and turns that I didn't see coming.
I really loved that there was not one problem throughout the book.
There were layers. Like an onion. I knew that there was something wrong with him! No one listened to me! Didn't they hear my internal screaming?! I guess not.
No, I wasn't expecting it to be that bad but I knew that there was something a little off with you-know-who that doesn't just have to do with confidence. So, there wasn't a thing that I didn't like in this book and it was amazing.
You should read it because: The reasons I just listed 2. Jennifer Armentrout wrote it do you need a better reason than that? I don't think so. View all 4 comments.

JLA has a wicked sense of writing, characters and plot twists. The world building is phenomenal. The tension and relationships between characters is palpable and well played. Anyway, how can you overlook everything that Roth does? The sacrifices he made for Laya? For Zayne? This quote! I want you to know something," he said, his voice hoarse and thick and sounding so far away, but full of urgency.
Review on Every Last Breath: After Roth was gone I was just a mess And then, it turns out my man is BACK! Well, any good that did me. But, WTF that release date is going to blow. Aug 14, Jennifer Kyle rated it really liked it Shelves: Review to come.
Los personajes principales Layla, Zayne y Roth me gustan mucho. En fin, que es un lujo leer a esta escritora. Os recomiendo el libro, a la autora Feb 25, Laura rated it it was amazing Shelves: Oktober I just finished and holy hell February Me realizing that I have to wait until november: I need more Roth and Bambi: Jan 25, Ashley rated it it was amazing Shelves: I can't do it!
I need the next book right this second. I love these books!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Layla pissed me off a lot in this book I don't think Roth was in this book nearly enough I can't stand Zayne I don't regret loving Bambi more than I love Layla No I absolutely did not see any of this stuff coming No And I repeat, I can't wait for the 3rd book!
JLA Did it again!!!
Sigo siendo TeamRoth. It doesn't go away. Thank God. I am not going to lie to you all. I have been soooo nervous these last few months about my relationship with JLA. I think it's because of her NA series. It just doesn't touch me the way you'd think it should, seeing as she's been my fa "I want you so badly it's like a hunger that gnaws at me endlessly. It just doesn't touch me the way you'd think it should, seeing as she's been my favorite author for a good two years or so.
But, in the last year I've started to see and feel I've seen changes in Armentrout's work. She's began to use repetitive phrasing occurring in each and every book she produces and anyone who knows me at all knows that is a Hell NO for me. And, I'll be honest, if it wasn't such childish phrasing it wouldn't bother me-at all. But, as it is, Holy crap on a cracker and Holy alien babies doesn't make me laugh like it once used to in her Lux and Covenant series. No, it makes me roll my eyes.
I felt that was a bold statement and that maybe I was just hoping that was the case. But, here comes Roth and all my doubts were obliterated- this was everything I've ever loved about JLA. I knew it. I just knew it. I wasn't thinking as I reached over and plucked the hamburger right out of his hand. Twisting at the waist, I threw the hamburger on the floor behind Roth as hard as I could.
The satisfactory splat it made as ketchup and mayo splattered like a gruesome burger massacre brought a wide smile to my face. Stacey let out a burst of shocked laughter. Roth glanced down at the hamburger and then his gaze slowly tracked back to mine. His eyes were wide. I'm not guna lie. It was a struggle to read any and every page for whatever reason Hey, it was a busy weekend! This is partly true, but it was so good that I still came out thinking, 'Wow, 5 stars!!! I missed some of the peril.
But nothing can beat peril peril peril peril peril and sexy scene sexy scene sexy scene and a badass twist near the end One thing I do know is that when book three comes out, I will be doing a re-read It takes too long and makes me all flighty.
Point being-this will be like a whole new book to me when I re-read it because I missed so much. I almost rushed Roth right then and threw my arms around him, but a low growl rumbled from behind me. At first I thought it was Abbot's response, but when I realized it was coming from Zayne, I couldn't move. Roth tilted his head to the side, watching me as a slow, roguish smile graced his lips.
I've always thought Armentrout is very clear about who is going to be the final male in the end. It's always been easy to tell. I think she was approached by her marketing people for this one because what was once a landslide victory for my dark demon Roth is now a murky, convoluted mess of a Zayne and Roth banana split.
This is her first novel where everyone is supposed to vote for which guy she ends up with I have no clue if my guy will win. Why, Jen?? It was excellent, sure. But it was also clear that Layla is in love with two guys. I'm not going to lie, though, I think her feelings are stronger for Roth. I really do. Zayne has been someone she's loved since she met him.
Roth is that fresh guy that swooped her up when Zayne didn't want anything to do with her She just won't let him go It was like that in book one, and then it did a complete And every word or phrase kinda hinted at how much Roth got under her skin and how he let her be herself. I loved that The truth of what she wants came out in her writing. Roth came back up the step, crowding me.
As he dipped his head so that his mouth nearly brushed mine when he spoke, I refused to back away. I even understand it, Layla. I get it. I hurt you and deserve every single one of your lies. She's funny, loyal, determined. She's flawed and not altogether a goody-goody.
I like her obsession with sweets ie sugar cookie cookie-dough because it helps her to satiate the urge she gets for soul-sucking lol. I love how that's her replacement.
I like how she interacts with her friends and how she doesn't shy away from a battle. There are many things Layla is, including scared a lot of the time, but she's not a coward. I love it. I stepped forward as Roth cracked his neck, signaling he was ready to end this little conversation. It wasn't the loving I wanted but we still got plenty of each guy. I liked the mystery behind who was reeking havoc on the school and wardens alike, even more I liked the way Armentrout channeled her evil side again she hasn't been so evil since my fav books Obsidian, Onyx, and Opal and let the blood and betrayal fly I don't know, I just really love this series, and even more I love that it's a trilogy.

I'm a sucker for a love story that has some wacky put into it and Jennifer L. Armentrout is just the w I felt so many emotions with this book it was unreal, first I was team Roth then I was team Zayne then I was back to being team Roth my head felt like it was going to spin off!
Armentrout is just the woman for the job. The story follows on from Layla's complete heartbreak after what Roth did for her, the girl was in serious shutdown mode. Again Zayne was there to pick all the pieces up and put them together again, but Roth returns and he ain't as loving as he was before but he's here to kick some serious ass with everything that's going on.
During all this Layla loses her ability to see auras and things start to change for her, she is able to do more unexpected things shall we say. Also, if you aren't a fan of a big messy love triangle you should stay away from this one cause there is a lot of it!
I love a strong character that you can picture in your mind and know exactly what they would look like and Armentrout makes it easy for you to do this. I love how she makes strong female characters too Katy from the Lux series is my favourite leading lady.. EVER but ole Layla isn't doing too bad either. Your hormones were all over the place you didn't know if you were coming or going and trying to easily make your mind up about something Then you had curfews, parents telling you what you can and cannot do and if you were like me sometimes you would stray from the righteous path that your parents were trying to lead you down but that's what being a teen is, and then came boys See what a did Pair haha ok enough.
