The magical descriptions within this book were great. Definitely makes you want to be a mermaid princess that lives in a castle under the sea. I don't know I'm just not fond of it.. But nothing I would go screaming about from the roof-tops. It's more of a 'Little Mermaid-ish' but for teens but with a bit of a twist.. And I kind of had to agree I would say it was written more for graders.. It's a sweet story and had you wanting to know what happened to them, and how they got to where they were..
And of course, there's a cliff hanger, which makes you want to know what happens next. So, more than likely, I will be going on to the next book It's another book that I have to say that I was iffy about because my first thought was Well, let me see how I fee about this one The obsession she had for one guy kind of got on my nerves And I wanted to smack her a few times I guess we all had SOME kind of form of it over a crush..
And I will stop here before I give away the rest of the story. Forgive My Fins is enchanting, fun, and where have you been bookie?!
This is one my 1st Tera Lynn Childs books. We get introduced to Lily Sanderson, who is a mermaid princess. But shes not exactly living in her kingdom,Thalassinia. She's hanging out with us humans on land.
Going to high school, teen drama, and being soo in love with Brody. She thinks his the one perfect guy to bond with. I found Lily to be a little shallow and caught up in la la land. But when the moment Lily can finally get Brody alone Quince comes. The annoying, rude, baby boy, next door neighbor hunk! He's always teasing her at first he was a jerk.
But in my head i was like "ah huh you like her" ha! I've always liked Quince, he's smart, nice, and not a total jerk i thought he was going to be. Way better then Brody, he is shallow. Like Quince said Lily "is he toy". At times i wanted to shake her to snap into reality. She was so blind because love was already in front of her. My favorite movie growing up was Little Mermaid, so when ever there a YA mermaid book i have to read!
Not only does the author have to create fabulous characters but a whole new beautiful world! Tera does that! Forgive My Fins will hook readers from the very 1st page! It's a mermaid book!
And I started reading it while taking a bath, AND the book starts with the narrator taking a bath! Like, oh-em-gee.
The story flew by, thanks to simple storytelling. The story was so-so, but delivers a pretty good message for teens about unrequited love. Princess Lily, daughter of a sea king, wants to explore her human mother's world and enrolls in high school. To maintain her royal status, she must become "bonded" the mer equivalent of marriage by her eighteenth birthday, which is coming up pretty quickly.
But she's got it all under control, since she's had her mate picked out since she set foot on land three and a half years ago.
After spending most of high school admiring her crush from afar, Lily is running out of time and must act now! After a mix-up on land Lily finds herself in a bit of a jam, and must retreat beneath the waves to get the problem resolved. I loved the underwater scenes, though they did demand a LOT of suspension of disbelief from me. Am I getting old and jaded when it comes to young adult fantasy? No, I don't think so.
There are some other books that do it better, but I recognize the effort here. Though I think this is the first mermaid book I've read where quite a bit of the action takes place underwater. Overall, I was satisfied with the book. It was a fun, refreshing, light-hearted read. And bonus points for all the ocean-related slang that Lily uses. I mean, that's clearly what must have happened to Lily. She's set up from the beginning to be dumb.
She struggles in school, and she can't for the life of her figure out the guy she wants doesn't want her even when he flat out says it.
She can't figure out that her neighbor kissed her on purpose, because he REALLY likes her, which is why he's given her such a hard time all along Because teen guys are dumb, and they pick on girls they like, in every universe.
Of course, she eventually does, but by that point I wanted to slap her. I suspect this would go over better with tweens. Seventeen year old Lily has a secret that no one knows: Her mother was half human, so she wants to learn about about that side of her. It also helps that she thinks Brody, swim team stud and super hot guy, is the love of her life. She plans to eventually kiss him, which will bind them together and allow him to take whatever form she takes.
Unfortunately Quince, her super annoying next door neighbor, is constantly in the way and ruins everything by kissing her. Now Quince and Lily are bound together and she has to go to her father to separate them before the bond becomes permanent. I've read and enjoyed most of Tera Lynn Childs' Sweet Venom series plus mermaids are awesome, so I decided to try out this series. It turned out to be a cute, very fluffy book with an unlikeable protagonist and a weak plot.
I would have liked Lily if she didn't interact with anyone expect her best friend. She has an odd style, a quirky personality, and is generally an ok person. When the boys come into the picture she becomes insufferable. She considers Brody the love of her life even though she barely knows the guy.
When he's around, no one else exists and she becomes completely self absorbed. When Quince is around, she is irrationally horrible to him and gets so angry at the slightest things. He's actually really nice to her and clearly has feelings for her.
He is a better person than me because if someone treated me that horribly, I would have given up a long time ago. I also found it annoying that she felt no responsibility or duty towards her undersea kingdom at all and she was willing to give it up for someone she doesn't even know.
I just couldn't sympathize with her at all and found her whiny and generally insufferable. I also didn't like that Lily had to be bound to someone before her eighteenth birthday to able to rule her kingdom.
It asserts that her relationship defines her as a competent ruler, which is ridiculous. All the characters aren't well written and don't have any dimensions. There's no subtly to the writing at all. If you are looking for a brain candy type book that doesn't require a lot of brain activity, this is the read for you. Forgive My Fins is an adorable tale about a young mermaid living her teenage years on land. It's filled with fun terminology and an adorable love story that I look forward to reading more about these memorable characters!
Lily Sanderson is half mermaid and half human, she has lived in the sea for all of her life and she wants to get a taste of the world that her mother comes from.
At Seaview haha, she's a mermaid living in a town called Seaview High School she falls in love with the star swimmer, Brody. Despite having had more than a few conversations with Brody, she has decided to that she wants to take him to meet and her King Daddy and spend the rest of her life with him.
All seems to be going well, until Quince Fletcher steals her first kiss. This is my first mermaid novel if you don't count The Little Mermaid The characters were charming, the world was vast and the plot kept me glued to the edge of my seat. While Lily's infatuation with Brody is a bit odd at first, but as I got to know Lily's naive personality I understood how she loved anything that reminded her of home. The story was definitely not what I expected a very interesting rule of mermaidism The characters were memorable and I adored Lily's naive nature and determination.
I also felt with her when she was distraught over her place on this earth. Lily's father came off very "King Tritonish" to me and I just could not shake that image from my head the entire time. While some of the characters were stereotypes of high school I enjoyed all of them and their interactions. At the beginning, Quince's ability to pop up randomly annoyed me, I did grow to like him as his relationship with Lily progressed.
Childs gives Lily a very believable voice and this voice makes her a very likeable character. While I did really enjoy it, I did want more than what the ending provided.
I would love to read the trilogy because I want more of Childs' world! I recommend this for anyone who wants a really cute and short read and enjoys the mermaid genre. Forgive my fins is an amazing story full of intrigue-and an everyday type of girl-crush.
But Lily Sanderson knows the consequences if she kisses Brody-she's bonded for life. And when Quince Fletcher, her archenemy, kisses her while she is waiting for Brody because of Quince's brilliant plan, she's shocked.
And when she runs back home, she reaizes that Quince is already turning Mer. Or into a merman, to be exact. This story is about a girl obsessed with a boy with charecteristics that he doesn't have, which is Brody. And as Quince tries to tell Lily how much he loves her and how they should be together, she tells her Father to sever the bond anyway, and despair falls unto her life.
But will there be a happy ending? This is an amazing book full of emotion and life. It's an great read! Lily has been in love with Brody for as long as she can remember, only he has no idea. When she finally wakes up one morning and decides to do something about it, her enemy Quince surprisingly decides to help her I loved every little thing about it. First off, the cover is just fantastic. I swear I just kept reading and then flipping back just to stare at it. I must say that my favorite character was Quince.
Such a hard exterior but yet so caring and thoughtful inside. Lily drove me absolutely nuts, but in a good way. We saw what Lily's life on land was like and then the author took us on a trip straight to Thalassinia.
The detailed descriptions of everything made me feel like I was really there! The sexual tension between her and Quince was just so thick throughout the whole book I felt like I was intruding just to read about those moments lol! Why is it that we're always searching for something that appears to be right in front of our faces. The question is will it be too late to realize it? Awesome book if you're looking for something light and fun to read on your summer vacation.
I loved this book!! I really like mermaids, and there just are not enough mermaids books out there. This book was truly a fun read, and a quick read at that. I can't wait until the next one comes out. Her characters all have strong personalities and I enjoy her writing style. I agree that a few times I wanted to bonk Lily over the head since she had her irrational points, but really, what teenage girl isn't? Loved it!! I really liked this book. I couldn't put it down, although at times I thought Lily to be selfish and stupid, this was an enjoyable book.
I absolutely feel in love with Quince, I loved his character and at times wanted to smack Lily in the head to make her come to her senses. Forgive My Fins did not quite catch my fancy as expected, but all in all, it was quite a charming read if one is looking for bubbly fun.
I could tell Tera Lynn Childs had a whale of a time with all the sea-themed quips and giggles - and after finishing such a read, I cannot help but roll with the puns as I type this review. Even horrible as they must be to you, my finless Readers.
Yet, as fun as Lily's aquatic phrases were, the story itself didn't sizzle and spark and all that good stuff. As far as characters go, Quince was by far my favorite. Misunderstood, overlooked, but absolutely irresistible and charming.
I'm debating whether or not I want to read the sequel Fins Are Forever when it comes out, but I think I probably will to find out how sweet the story ends - and to see if Quince gets uber-hotter: Compared to oh. This was such a cute book! Lily was a bit frustrating at certain times though. The storyline and plot flowed smoothly and provided a quick read. Be warned though, all the mermaid puns will be stuck in your head for a little while!
Ever since I first came across a synopsis of Forgive my Fins, I'd been dying to read it, so when I could never seem to find it in any book store, I was so dissapointed. But now that I've finally read it I won it in a contest! I've always loved mermaids when I was little, whenever anyone would ask what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would always answer that I wanted to be a mermaid lol , but I've found that the YA genre has been lacking on books about mermaids, but this thankfully seems to be changing!
Tera Lynn Childs has really struck gold, in my opinion, with Forgive my Fins because it combines everything that I love in a book; love, romance, humour, and of course mermaids as the supernatural creature of choice! Lily was such a cute character!
