It's well written and keeps you engaged. I found myself stealing time out of my work day to get some more reading in. For those of you that are having trouble with characters, places, etc I recommend you download the app "Game of Thrones Companion".
You can zoom in on the map, get detailed info on houses, characters, religions, and so on. Just the sheer scope, the world created, the depth of the characters As far as the series goes, this book is fantastic, second one is probably my favorite, third is great as well, and there is somewhat of a dip in quality in book 4 but still worth reading, and I have high hopes for book 5 which is due in July.
One caveat, though: I have seen reviewers on here who complained about the sheer amount of characters and families and stuff introduced in the beginning, and there's definitely something to that - as I said before, the scope is massive.
But the solution to that is the appendices; I found myself in the beginning constantly flipping back there to keep track of the different families and stuff, and while I can understand that might annoy some readers, it is definitely helpful for keeping track of who's who.
Just know that if you do put in the work it's totally worth it. Thank you so much for your feedback! We have fixed this bug.
Please download our latest app update 3. First off let me say I really love this application.
There can be a lot of confusion due to the complex story lines and so many characters and locations. This application is so helpful in keeping everything and everybody straight in your head. I appreciate the brief but informative backstories of the characters and locations as well. The maps are so very thorough and so easy to navigate as well. For example I chose Brienne of Tarth and it informed me the book she first appears in is not unlocked and sends me to the slider screen to unlock it.
This is a really awesome application and I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you!!!!

These boxes represent the books. Any character with a book icon next to their name is locked content. You can unlock additional characters by unlocking additional books in your Journey Map spoiler setting.
Best of all, you'll be armed with enough knowledge to maybe earn some real gold in your office betting pool. Out of any Game of Thrones companions, this is the only one officially endorsed by author George R. Martin himself -- and it shows.

Be patient: The website is painfully slow and takes a long time to load not as long as the opening credits to HBO's show, but it sure feels like it , but the content is worth the wait.
