Cardiac Arrest and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 2. Airway Management and Endotracheal Intubation 3. Arterial and Pulmonary Artery Catheters 4. Temporary Cardiac Pacing 5. Pericardiocentesis for Pericardeal Effusion and Tamponade 6. Intraaortic Balloon Counterpulsation 7.
The illustrations are brightly colored, clear, and complement the text. Each chapter concludes with a short list of relevant additional readings.
One-hundred fourteen review and self-assessment questions and answers are included at the end of the text. The questions are well written, cover a broad range of pulmonary and critical care topics, and will be useful for readers who are studying for board exams.
However, for readers using the book as a reference source, or readers trying to learn the material for the first time who want to test themselves on what they've just read, topic-specific questions at the end of each chapter would be more helpful. After reading this book, I'm a little uncertain as to what unfilled educational need it meets.
The complete Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine retains it's role in the training of medical students and physicians, and this book is essentially a lighter-weight and more portable repackaging of a portion of the complete Harrison's, with the addition of review questions.
As a stand-alone resource, or in conjunction with Critical Care Medicine, it's the field's best self-assessment resource. Uses a question and answer format to review all of the information needed to prepare for certification and recertification exams.
Models the questions after the single-best-answer or matching questions used on exams. Features questions written by a select group of writers experienced in writing board review questions.
Provides detailed answers and rationales for each question. Includes diagrams and tables not available elsewhere.
Keys answers to specific pages in Critical Care Medicine: Principles of Diagnosis and Management in the Adult, 2nd Edition, making it easy to find more information. Organizes the content by organ system.
With 5 additional contributing experts.
